I only have help for a short period of time and my biggest problem with changing my Mom's diaper is the physical strength it takes to roll her, run to the other side, pushing the diaper under her, etc. My mother is not a big woman (about 150 pounds) but getting everything in place, removing the soiled diaper, putting cream on her as well as a special powder, putting the new pad and diaper on, etc....by the time I am finished I am sweating and I know she feels my agitation. For me it is so hard! There must be an easier way!!! Every time I have to do it is like torture! Help please!

Is there something to give them to or a suppository to make their bowel move gently? My husband complains of being full but does not seem to want to go in his diaper. he is unable to get on the bedside commode.

I use the washable bed pads under her soo she can air out, same problem, SIL has sensitive skin so can get rash easily. When she needs the diapers I use the roll method others spoke about, had hospice show me how. In the baby dpt. they have what's called butt paste, works wonders! Wipes can get very expensive over time, so I have a bunch of wash cloths and a little basin of warm water for cleaning....as an adult, the baby wipes don't cut it for the bigger messes. I have mastered the art of not breathing through my nose when I even enter her room so the smell doesn't punch me in the face! Good luck :)

My situation is compounded by spinal fractures at L5 and L1,2. So turning to change is difficult. Any ideas.

I have found using the garbage pail bags with fabreeze spring scent some help until I carry out in morning. And I use lavender scent softener in everything to help the air.

About the heels on the bed? Ideas welcome...DH takes eliquis and is pounding his feet and heels and that can't be good. Ideas?

How do you handle the SMELL of very stinky diapers? Is there a trick to it. I have this tendency to smile and chuckle only I've found it just embarrasses them and I don't want that.

For a fresh smell in a room where the person using adult diapers stays, I use a small Tupperware container (no lid) with about 1 inch of water, then about 3 drops of essential oil usually lavender, clary sage, or ginger in the water. The oil stays on the water surface and keeps the room smelling fresh.

I've watched many videos for everything "elder care". I am caring for a friends mother, who is also on hospice care. I'm learning as i go. With hopice, we already know how it will end. Our job is to be patient and listen to her. Speak clear and slow. If she looks confused, repeat your words or change them to be more clear. Most important is Compassion. For her and the family.
I'm where I should be. Not behind a desk anymore. It feels right.
I just joined this forum, and will come here for answers.
