Hello everyone. My siblings and I are looking into part-time home care for mom. Has anyone had experience with Senior Helpers?

Absolutely the worst. Have 4 hours x 7 days thru Senior Helpers. Last time anyone showed up was 1 week ago for 1 day and before that appeared 2 times in 7 days. Have been on service 2 years. Had 1 great caregiver 6 days per week. They never could find someone for the other day. Patient pleasant gentleman with dementia. In Sept caregiver had to have surgery. They sent caregiver who could only stay 3 hours because she had to be home for her own home health aid. Another had a cane and couldn't do more than being a sitter. She could ride patients stair lift with no difficulty. 4 had no cars and had to have agency get ubers for them to get home. None stayed more than a week or 10 days. Callouts a problem and frequent. I was called to see if helper came 2.5 hours after start time. They were a no show. Mold continues to grow in bathroom, mirrors are filth and I don't know when bathroom mats were washed or floor mopped. Same food on living room carpet since Sept.

So what happened in the days before you had a caregiver? Who took care of your mom in the days before when you had to work? Were you never late before you had a caregiver ? Who took care of your mother when you went to work?

Senior Helpers are unreliable and I have only have old infirmed helpers. One even had her own HHA. In last 6 weeks 8 new HHA didn't cover 4 plus shifts and filled 4 at half time, She had to go to PT. Uber had to get them here. Staff is not concerned about this. Today they sent HHA somewhere else. Lacks continuity.

I just started using Senior Helpers. I’m sure each one is different but so far I’m disappointed. One of the reasons I went with them is it says on the website they have dementia training, Senior Gems. I asked the helper they sent about her experience with dementia and she said she hasn’t had any. Her clients haven’t had it. She is 22 and has been with the company two years. Ok, I think she seems caring with my Mom. Her first day she is 20 minutes late. I’m upset already nervous about my Mom just moving in and how this is all going to work. Now I’m late for work. I stress to her she needs to be on time in the morning and when I get home I let her know again it’s important she is on time. I tell her I was late and have a patient at 8, that will now have to wait. I email her boss. I’m told he will talk to her about being on time. Second day she is 15 minutes late. I’m again late for work, what should I do?

I would tell the supervisor that you can't have this and that the next person will have you going with another company (Visiting Angels?) or outside of an agency. This is completely unacceptable.
Of course we well know what is afoot here. Poor pay with the agency getting a lot of what you pay per hour.
But that's a whole lot of lying about the experience thing!

We utilized Senior Helpers in Northern California. Was very easy to set up, they handled all paperwork and billed VA directly. Unfortunately, my father was pretty racist and it was difficult to find someone he could connect with. But I had a positive experience!

Yes I had a care giver break an expencive vase.
She sent me a text "I did not break your vase".
When she arrived I shoed her the chipped vase.
She then said "I did not break it . I chiped it.
The vase is now worthless.

Every Sr Helper's are different. We are in the Twin Cities and my mom has a caregiver to help with showering three times a week. She really likes her. The owner has been very helpful and we just started having someone come in the morning for a couple hours too. I think finding the right fit is important and that may take awhile.

Had a bad experience with Senior Helpers. Aide left early with the approval of the manager and no one bothered to tell us.

This would definitely be a deal breaker for me. I would never use this agency again. They left a vulnerable senior without any help.

Did they explain why the aide left early? Was it a family emergency or something? Why didn’t they send a replacement? How long was your mom left alone?

All I will say is that I had a bad experience with Senior Helpers when they were suggested for my mom. Won’t go into any further detail.

Are you looking for agency's, or are you just looking for suggestions on what to look out for when hiring, red flags and such?

I think more information would be helpful

If you looking for information, I did some care giving, for an agency.
And I think a lot of it has to do with the personality of your loved one and do they fit.

I was sent to this wonderful man's house once, but his wife didn't like me at all. We finally figured out she was jealous. They started sending younger girls there, because she didn't like someone in her 50s in her house, the younger ones where not a threat to her. Not that I was a threat, but in her mind I was.

Some good people just don't fit in your loved ones world.

Good luck in this very difficult journey
